hey guys!!! i am new to all of this,was wondering how to get that rough grungy feel in the voiceover,the ones u hear on new movie trailers or like the effect u hear on killerhertz demo voiceover..i use vegas4.0 and any other basic tips n tricks will be much appreciated....thanx...radiodaddy rocks....

That voice is, unfortunatly, is something you're born with. That's why guys like Hal Douglas and Don LaFontaine make millions of bucks a year. You can still make a ton of money doing movie trailers without that kind of voice, just look at a guy like Joe Cipriano, who has a lighter voice, and makes a ton of money with it. He's one of the main voices on Fox TV, and I think he does a lot of the promo work for the CBS comedies. There are a few tricks you can use, like more of a "whispered" voice, and you can try working a little closer to the mic. But for the most part, you just have to have that voice already.

Aside from the voice itself, try a highpass filter...Use EQ to drop all of the frequencies below 400Hz...Make a little boost around 3kHz. Follow with lots of compression.

hey thanx guys,much appreciated...i guess a good voiceover artist is what i need.will also try a high pass filter n compression like u said.i am not working on any project or anything,i just heard that voice n was curious..thanx again for ur time..will be back soooon with some other questions...radiodaddy rocks...cheers...
