Perfect Voa/Client Collaboration

A recent member posted a request for a video spot. He provided a script (with proper pronunciations), and some directions. I produced for him the first spot above. REMEMBER, I'm not the requester, I don't know him, therefore, I have no idea what he heard in his head at the time he put this together. After hearing what I produced, he wrote me and said he loved it, however, he wanted me to use music he provided, and it had to be no longer than 30 secs. Spot 2 above was produced from our conversations using the same vocals from the 1st spot. BIG DIFFERENCE!

Again, when provided a script a VOA hears one thing, or gets an idea of how to produce the script, which may be entirely different than what the client hears. It's up to the client/poster/requester, to get us to hear what they hear, so that the results can sound the way they want. And that can happen at the time the request is made, if it is SPECIFIC.

Now this could start a whole new discussion about clients who are never satisfied. The ones who keep coming back tweaking the results. Sorry, I'm not speaking about them here. That's why this was the perfect collabo!

Just thought I'd share with you guys how it CAN go when the two work together!

The Art & Science Of Copywriting Now

Whilst creative writing is more art than science, informed
opinion is that copywriting is far more science than art. This is,
by and large, an accurate assessment, although it would be a
serious mistake to dismiss the importance of creative flair in
copywriting.
Comparing the two, a novelist will use artistry to produce a
great piece of work, but this cannot happen without a formulaic
plot structure. The science is used to give an order to the artistic
prose. A copywriter will use science to optimally trigger buying
impulses. Marketing strategies have been around for long
enough that there is little guesswork involved in what does or
doesn’t work.
You can argue about the percentages – which will vary
depending on what exactly you are promoting – but creative
writing is more art, and copywriting is more science.
Despite that, it is not true to say that creative writing goes for
the heart and copywriting goes for the brain. The seat of our
emotions is not in the heart, even if we romantically attribute it
to that place and often physically feel it there. Our emotions
happen in our brains as chemical reactions that are then fired
around our systems and experienced all over the body.
Copywriters should not forget that humans are emotional
creatures. The paradox is that to trigger these emotional
responses requires a scientific approach by the copywriter; an
observance of certain rules proven to have worked time and time
again.
This is great news for you, the budding copywriter. There is no
need to sit down and ponder some dazzling new approach. You
don’t need to sign up to any creative writing course to be a

successful copywriter. In fact, as a copywriter, you can shoot
yourself in the foot by trying to be too creative, as this can
interfere with the elements that have been proven over time to
work effectively in promoting interest and sales.
If you’re not sure about this, consider how much attention you
pay to a billboard as you are driving by. For one thing, you can’t
physically pay it much heed without getting distracted and
causing a car wreck. Its message therefore needs to be highly
succinct, which leaves little room for flowing creativity. It is the
headline that counts. However, there is certainly an art to
creating a memorable slogan that will stick in the mind after one
brief glance.
The vast majority of advertising that ends up in front of you is
unsolicited. You didn’t ask to be shown it, therefore if it is to
work effectively it has to grab your attention almost instantly or
you will dismiss it. A good copywriter appreciates this fact, and
gears their copy to press the right buttons in their audience as
quickly as possible. This is the science. Perhaps some people
may term it an art form, but even the word “form” suggests that
there is an accepted structure that must exist for it to work.
The Client Brief
This may further define the copywriter’s job as more of a
science than an art. If a car company wants you to promote their
latest model and the selling point is its hybrid engine, then your
brief is defined. Waxing lyrical about its upholstery is not going
to cut it. That may be a requirement once the hook is in, but
companies usually have their own ideas about where the focus
of an ad campaign should be, thus copywriters generally do not
have the freedom to play around and experiment as a true artist
might.
A good copywriter will listen to the brief and know exactly what
it is that the client wishes to convey. As a copywriter, it is your

job to express those points powerfully, according to the methods
that you know have traditionally worked best.
Of course, this is also where the art comes in because you must
be able to give life to whatever words you use. Writing about a
new sleeping pill, there is no doubt that the most junior
employee of the pharmaceutical company could come up with
the line: “Makes you go to sleep when you couldn’t before”. A
copywriter will be called upon because the client automatically
and rightly assumes that a good copywriter will combine a
competent level of writing skills with intelligence, common
sense, creativity and imagination. The intelligence and common
sense to take on board the brief and know how to apply tried and
trusted marketing rules to it, and the creativity and imagination
to perhaps add that special sparkle to the finished message.
Ultimately, defining copywriting is a semantic exercise, and it
doesn’t much matter what you call it so long as you remember
that there are rules that must be obeyed. When an artist mixes
colors on a palette, it is both art and science. Science dictates
how the colors mix together – you can never mix red and yellow
and not get orange – whilst the art is in tweaking the proportions
to achieve the subtleties.
As a copywriter, being able to grasp both is obviously beneficial
as it gives you the flexibility to adapt to all briefs, but you
should not be overly concerned with subtleties. Subtleties are
often lost on people, especially those people who don’t have the
time or inclination to uncover them.
Remember always that your average audience needs bold colors,
and those you can easily learn to produce.

Parody

Once in awhile I hear a song on the radio, and it starts out different then it should.
Like the song will talk about the station itself for like 15 seconds, then roll into the real song. It has the real beat or something very similar (most times it is a key different).

I was wondering what this kind of thing was called, or if someone knows where I can find someone/place to get one done.

This is the song I want covered:

The part I want covered is where he is saying "Rack city, rack rack city"...then he trails off into 10 10 10 ( got an idea for this part but I will continue later on when I know more)

Rack City, would be changed to "Rhux City"..... I just want about 5 seconds worth most likely.

To clarify this, I am not asking for a voice request. Just merely asking where I can locate where to get it done.

Colin French Productions Managing Director explains, "2013 has been a fantastic year for my production company with Rewind To The 70’s being broadcast on over 300 stations, so we thought we'd celebrate!"
The shows are an ideal way to fill a gap in your Christmas Schedule or maybe to give your DJs the day off.

Hello,

I recently joined the radiodaddy community because I decided to start my own podcast and a fellow friend and podcaster told me that he has used the site to get some sweepers and other bits to make his podcast feel more professional.

So, I made a post. I outlined the two lines I needed and in what kind of voice I was looking for. I got some views but by the next day my post was locked. I emailed radio daddy to try and find out exactly why but never received a response. Maybe some other members here might be able to take a look at the post and tell me why they think it was locked.

It's putting a real damper on getting my podcast going because I need the elements in place and I'm afraid to post again unless I know what I did wrong in the first place.

Oh and hello to everyone here. I know this isn't the official introduction area, but hello anyway.

Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer! I joined last week! I'm VERY eager to help who ever is in need of a voice. I've been in radio since 99. Since I am new I see that I am limited to 1 post a day for a while but might jump in and post something on your profile with a link to the audio I recorded for you if that is cool! (I don't want to break any rules and I know I'm not supposed to contact people thru PM for that reason and I am cool with that) Just want to make sure people get what they need, I guess! I'm usually available M-F during the day! Let me know how I can help.

Down For The Count!

so, a few days ago, my computer that i do all my production decided it was done working for me and retired. The techs at the repair shop were unable to recover anything. All of my programs are now gone, as is the computer that held them. Luckily, i have all of my workparts backed up on disc and removable hard drives, but until i get my new computer parts here and build my new computer, i will be unable to do any production work. This little laptop that i have just isnt beefy enough for it. So, i am currently not taking any new work in, have refunded all orders for production work for the time being, and will be unable to do much of anything for the next several days at best. The website is still up and running, so if anyone needs workparts or music beds, those are still available. the release of the new package has been pushed back until February. However, there is good news.... due to this little mishap, it has left me in a bit of a pickle, so i have marked down everything on the sound lizard website's media store down by 85% until further notice.

i apologize for the inconvenience to those who had production orders in, and those of you who had already paid, your money has been completely refunded. If you wish to take your project to another producer rather than wait for me to get my system put together, i dont blame you. I would hate to lose clients, but i understand that some projects just can't wait.

I will keep everyone updated when i can.

Hello

My name is Tom and I am from Ohio. I have been working on my personal radio station from time-to-time as a hobby. Mostly due to being the military I couldn't be as active as I wanted to be.

Recently I have started a Facebook group that has only gained 125 likes in 10 days, but likes have shown sporadically here and there since then. For the page I created a website and on the website I have come up with an internet TV channel that airs 24/7. This time, instead of doing everything on my own, I have help from the admins of my page on Facebook.

There's my short, but hopefully informative introduction.

What Is Aircheck ?

In the radio industry, an aircheck is generally a demonstration recording, often intended to show off the talent of an announcer or programmer to a prospective employer, but mainly intended for legal archiving purposes. A scoped (short for "telescoped" - by analogy with pressing the ends of a hand-held telescope to reduce its size) aircheck usually contains only segments where the announcer is actually talking, along with a bit of the music or commercial on either side. In an unscoped aircheck, all programming is left intact and unedited, including music, commercials, newscasts, jingles and other on-air events.

Another category of airchecks are those recorded "off-the-air" by listeners, using consumer or semi-professional equipment. These airchecks became more common with the advent of commercial cassette recorders.

One of the oldest known surviving airchecks consists of a 15-minute broadcast by Bing Crosby on Los Angeles station KHJ and the CBS network from September 2, 1931. It was recorded by the RCA Victor company of Hollywood and is fully documented in the Victor files at the National Archives. The recordings were made by RCA Victor at the request of rival network NBC, which apparently wanted to monitor the then-rising young singer. The sound of the recording suggests that it was made by placing an open microphone before a high-quality radio (a method known in the radio trade as a "mike-feed").

Hello From Puerto Rico

Hello. Im Drägon Rodríguez. I live in Puerto Rico and have been working in commercial radio in this market since 1997.

I work as a commercial and imaging Radio Producer. I do a lot of voice work locally and would like to get my voice to other places and maybe movie trailers and other things.

I have a young "non-anouncer" voice. I do a lot of car retail spots and a lot of rock/metal (growlish voice) liners and promos.
I have the advantage of being able to produce my own material. I'm willing to help in order to get my voice going around and learn from the experience.

I forgot to add something important. My primary language its spanish. But I also do english voice overs. So if you need anything in spanish or in english with a mild latin accent, I'm here to help.
